The 838 was saved and repainted back to NP 7012A and is now on the Mt Rainier Scenic Railroad in Washington State.

BN 1876 renumbered to BN 1801 (2nd) 4/75

Many of the GP9's assigned to Glendive, MT were rebuilt with low short hoods. BN 1841 was also rebuilt with low short hood. BN 1894, 1908, 1911 and 1940 were rebuilt to GP9B 600-603 in 1982. Also in the 1980's a number were sold to short lines including MRL while others went into a rebuilding program emerging as BN GP28's during 1992/1993.

BN 1840, 1944 and 1954 all wrecked and scrapped. 15 were assigned BNSF numbers. Most have been sold or retired.

The 4180-4185 lacked Dynamic Brakes while 4186-4197 were equipped with them. After the BN merger all 18 RS11's were assigned to Vancouver, WA along with the SP&S Alcos until all were retired by 1980. It looks like at least seven were resold to shortlines including 4185, 4186 and 4190 to Erie Mining and 4193 to KB&S.

Before the BN merger in the 1968-1969 time period NP 2523 was equipped to operate as a Locotrol master with GP18 380 the receiving unit back in the train until control cars could be built replacing the GP18. Later a second U25C, the 2524 was also equipped to run with the remote equipment. BN continued the program after 1970 as coal business began to increase dramatically and removed the master equipment from two former GN GP35's placing them in U25C's 5602, 5608 to go along with the 5623 and 5624 to keep a sense of compatability. All 4 U25C's worked in coal service with rebuilt B-units now serving as the receivers until new BN U30C's arrived on the property and the equipment was eventually removed from the four U25C's.

All 30 U25C's were on the BN roster at the time of their retirement in 1981. None survived the scrappers torch.

NP's 10 U33C's were built in July 1969 and numbered 3300-3309 and were on the roster just 8 months when the BN merger occurred. They were then renumbered 5715-5724. The 5720 was wrecked and retired in 1978 while the other nine remained on the BN roster until 1984 when they were retired and sent to PNC for scrapping.

BN 6420-6429 ex-NP 3620-3620 built 4-5/68

BN inherited these 30 SD45's from the Northern Pacific. Over time BN removed the extra cab windows as well as the red warning gyrolight on the nose. In March 1973 the 6418 still in NP paint was severely damaged in a derailment near Skykomish, WA but was rebuilt, the only former NP SD45 I am aware of that was severely wrecked. The last ex-NP SD45 to be retired was 6417 in early 1987. It went to the Wisconsin Central and today is owned by the Lake Superior Railroad museum with plans to return it back to its original NP paint and number 3617. The only other two ex-NP SD45 survivors I know of is the 6405 (NP 3605) and 6420 (NP 3620) which were rebuilt to VMV SD40-3's and sold to the KCS in the Mid-1990's. Apparently neither are in service at this time and are currently stored.
