BN 1639

BN 1639 was built by EMD in December of 1953 as Northern Pacific GP7 565.

Of the 20 GP7's NP ordered numbered 550-569 the last six (564-569) were delivered with dynamic brakes.

These six were assigned to the Rocky Mountain Division at Livingston, MT

After the March 1970 BN merger the NP 565 was renumbered BN 1639 and continued to be assigned to Livingston, MT.

I noted the 1639 while riding Amtrak train #9 westbound at Missoula, MT 4-11-74 along with a number of other BN GP7's. It had been repainted BN green by that time.

I purchased a slide of the 1639 on eBay showing it at Missoula 8-3-78.

BN retired the 1639 in June of 1983 and it was sold for scrap.
