BN 1845

NP Built GP9 1845

BN 1845 was built as the NP GP9 219 in June of 1955. During 1969, NP's last full year before the BN merger, the 219 was assigned to the Tacoma Division at Auburn. My notes say I first saw the 219 at Auburn, WA 5-19-69 with GP9 258. I also saw the 219 arriving at Auburn on 9-13-69 off of Stampede Pass in a consist of 336/219/284/338/214/6013D (GP9/GP9/GP9/GP9/GP9/F7A) with fairly new NP caboose 10416 on the rear.

After the March 1970 BN merger the NP 219 was renumbered BN 1845. My notes say I first saw the BN 1845 at Auburn on 12-26-70, and still in NP colors. This eBay slide purchase shows the BN 1845 at Auburn, WA 7-13-71. Note that the GP9 wears NP's simplified paint scheme. The slide mount was marked with W.L. Hammond as the photographer.

By 1973 the 1845 had been transferred to Vancouver, WA for maintenance and was eventually painted BN green. Another eBay slide purchase shows the 1845 seven years later on 12-22-80 at West Burlington, IA. The photographer was Ken Kessler.

The 1845 was retired and sold for scrap not long afterwards in 1981.

So, the 1845 was originally the NP 219 built in 1955 and was painted into NP's simplified scheme before the BN merger. It was assigned to the Northwest until retired, and was scrapped in 1981
