BN 1730

BN GP9 1730 was built by EMD 2/57 as Northern Pacific 292.

As built it was equipped with dynamic brakes and assigned to the Rocky Mountain division at Livingston, MT. It was also painted in NP's simplified scheme before the BN merger.

After the March 1970 BN merger the NP 292 was renumbered BN 1730. railroadpicturearchives has a photo of the 1730 still in NP colors showing it in the simplified scheme:

I first saw the 1730 on a trip to Livingston, MT 4-10-74 on a local with units 1998/1730/1718 (GP18/GP9/GP9)

Though I never photographed the 1730 others did. Here are a few eBay purchases, both taken by regular contributor D.L. Zeutschel. First is BN 1730 at Helena, MT 7-15-77.

And this photo of the 1730 at Helena, MT was taken 9-11-82 and note that the GP9 now sports a chop nose.

BN 1730 only lasted a few years after that photo before being retired and scrapped by BN in June of 1984.
