BN 6426

BN SD45 6426 was built as Northern Pacific 3626 in May of 1968.

After the March 1970 BN merger the NP 3626 was renumbered to BN 6426 and assigned to Livingston, MT. I first saw the BN 6426 at Auburn, WA 9-16-72 in the engine facility after having arrived on a westbound freight off Stampede Pass and noted it still in NP paint.

On 9-18-78 I got my first photo of the 6426 at Interbay, WA, now in BN green. Eight years after the merger the ex-NP SD45 still has it's extra cab side windows and red warning light on the nose.

By this time, the 6426 was assigned to Havre, MT for maintenance. I roster shot the 6426 once more at Skykomish, WA 5-31-79, still with the extra windows and red warning light.

On 8-22-82 I photographed westbound #129 at North Portal in Seattle with units 6426/8002 up front. The SD45 is in fairly fresh paint and the extra cab windows have been plated over and the red nose light is gone as well.

BN retired the 6426 a few years later in June of 1984. It was sold to PNC and scrapped.
