BN 1705

BN GP9 1705 was built as NP 205. The 205 was part of NP's second order of EMD GP9's after the 200-203 which was the first group ordered in early 1954. The second order from November 1954 were numbered 204-217. (the 204-213 were ordered with dynamic braking .for use in mountain districts) The 205 among other dynamic braked GP9's were assigned to Livingston, MT.

After the March 1970 BN merger the NP 205 was renumbered BN 1705 and continued to be assigned to Livingston.

I never did see or photograph the 1706 but bought a slide taken by D.L. Zeutschel I have posted here. This slide was taken at Butte, MT 1-29-83.

The slide shows a set of missing louvers on the long hood which means the NP 205 wore NP's simplified scheme as that missing area was where the part of the NORTHERN PACIFIC lettering was placed.

The BN 1705 did not last long after that as it was retired in May 1985 and scrapped by BN June 1985.
