Welcome to the Burlington Northern Tribute Website - Spokane, Portland and Seattle Section. Here one will be able to obtain information on the Spokane, Portland and Seattle diesels which were apart of the Burlington Northern Railroad. On this page, there are tables which is the complete roster of Spokane, Portland and Seattle diesels which made it to the Burlington Northern Diesel Roster.
 
Over time, the rosters will be filled out with information, and thus to read about a specific locomotive, all one has to do is to click on the number wanted within the specified table. Enjoy your visit!

Unlike most of BN's EMD's and GE's a number of the 16 Alco C425's were involved in mishaps that were fatal in the early BN years.

BN 4251 was destroyed by fire at Vancouver, WA 9-4-70 and scrapped.
BN 4261 wrecked near Bend, OR 7-16-71 and retired.
BN 4250 wrecked at Paxton, OR 5-14-72 and retired.
BN 4265 wrecked near Madras, OR 2-18-74 and retired.

The remaining 12 units survived to 1980 when they were all retired. These C425's were all sold to the Kyle RR, 4252, 4255-4258, 4260, 4262-4264. Some have since been scrapped while others were sold to different shortlines.

KYLE 4252, 4255, 4263-4264 later went to IHRC (Indiana HiRail) before being sold off to other shortlines.
4258 and 4260 went to DMV (Dakota, Missouri Valley) but are no longer on that roster.

BN 4253-4254 and 4259 were sold to Simon and Sons and scrapped.

The class series info for all 10 C636's:

BN 4360-4365 ex-SP&S 330-335 Built 12/67-1/68
BN 4366-4369 ex-SP&S 340-343 Built 11/68

All 10 were retired by end of 1980 and scrapped but 4366 which was sold by Chrome Crankshaft to Hamersley Iron (Australia) in place of wrecked C&O C636 and rebuilt to RRIA CM40-8M 9417.
