BN 4251
BN 4252 was built in June 1965 by Alco as the SP&S 312. It was third of an eight unit order of C425's built that year numbered 310-317. They were all assigned to Vancouver, WA for maintenance. Here is a photo of the SP&S 312 at Pasco, WA taken in 1969 from the collection of Kevin Piper.

After the 1970 BN merger the SP&S 312 was renumbered BN 4252 and remained assigned to Vancouver, WA. I first saw the 4252 on 11-19-72 at Auburn, WA on a northbound led by 2078/2087/2085/4252 (3 GP38-2's/C425) The 4252 was still in SP&S colors at that time.
I got my first photo of the 4252 at Auburn on 12-27-79, again a trailing unit on eastbound 176 headed for Stampede Pass That train had units 8055/C&S 7841/5475/7061/4252 (SD40-2/SD40-2/U30B/SD40-2/C425)
The 4252 went into storage not long after that. On a trip to Portland, OR 5-3-80 I photographed the 4252 in storage there.
BN retired the 4252 in August of 1980. Kyle RR soon picked up the 4252 along with a number of other BN Alco's and it went from the Pacific Northwest to Kansas. There is no record of the 4252 going anywhere else after Kyle so it is possible it has long since been retired and scrapped.
