BN 4368

BN C636 4368 was built by Alco as SP&S 342 in December of 1967 as the third of four C636's numbered 340-343 giving the SP&S a total of 10 C636's.

After the March 1970 merger the SP&S 342 was renumbered to BN 4368 and assigned to Vancouver, WA for maintenance.

I found an entry of BN C636 4368 leading a train over Stampede Pass in 1971 after going through the Easton OS books from November 1971. Actually the page for 11-9-71 shows the 4368 going through Easton three times, I figured it might have doubled the hill as it was westbound the first time at 1137 AM and again at 440 PM the second time.

This photo from RailPictures.net shows the 4368 still in SP&S paint at Oroville, CA the same month it was noted going through Easton, WA, November of 1971:

On 4-20-76 I photographed the 4368 at Interbay yard north of Seattle, WA in nice looking BN paint

I caught the 4368 leading southbound train #139 on 11-20-78 seen here leaving Argo, WA with units 4368/2089/4258 (C636/GP38-2/C425)

And the same train again at South Seattle, WA

Christmas Day 1978 I got my first 35mm camera and in March 1979 photographed the 4368 with it. Here northbound train #146 with units 4188/827/4010/4368 (RS11/F9B/C415/C636) is passing through Argo, WA 3-9-79 headed for Interbay.

The next day (3-10-79) I was up at Interbay yard and took this rear end roster of the 4368 in the engine facility. From all angles the Alco C636's looked big.

By the end of 1979 all of BN's Alco's went into storage. On 5-3-80 I rode Amtrak from Seattle to Portland, OR and saw the 4368 there in storage along with a lot of other BN Alco's. In August of 1980 BN retired the 4368 and it along with some other BN C636's were shipped east to Chicago. This photo from rrpicturearchives shows the 4368 at Chicago in early 1981 pretty much ready to meet its fate. Note that the number boards have already been removed:

The BN 4368 was scrapped sometime soon after.
