BN 4262
BN C425 4262 was built by Alco as the SP&S 324 in June of 1966 and was maintained at the Vancouver, WA shops. It was part of the final order of eight C425's that the SP&S ordered.

After the March 1970 BN merger the SP&S 324 was renumbered to BN 4262 and remained assigned to Vancouver, WA.
I first saw the 4262 at Auburn, WA 11-7-70 on a northbound BN freight with units 4241/4262, both still in SP&S colors.
The 4262 led a eastbound train by Easton, WA on 1-6-71 where it stopped for about an hour.. Judging by the time I would guess this was train #174. The Easton OS sheet for that day shows the 4262 East in the right hand column.
The 4262 was later painted BN green and continued to roam in the Northwest. My only photo of the 4262 was taken at Interbay, WA 8-16-77. Except for some touch up paint on the front sill and a rough looking nose the C425 looks pretty good from the cab back.
A few years later the 4262 went into storage with all of the other BN Alcos. On 5-3-80 on a trip to Portland, OR I spotted the 4262 in storage there with lines of other stored BN Alcos. It's days of active service on the BN were finished. It was officially retired in August of 1980. It was sold to Chrome who then sold it to Kyle RR who painted out the road name and added "Kyle" to the cab sides. Life after Kyle was short lived. It was sold to Indiana Hirail as a parts source. This series of photos from Flickr at Evansville, IN shows the end of the 4262 in a series of images. It was scrapped in July-August, 1996.
