BN 451

BN 451 was built as Great Northern NW2 5303 in February of 1939. In 1943 it was renumbered to GN 103. The 103 saw all three of GN's paint schemes and at the time of the BN merger wore Big Sky Blue. It was assigned to Lines East - Dakota Division and at the time of the March 1970 BN merger was renumbered to BN 451 and assigned to Grand Forks, ND.

I never saw or photographed the BN 451 but did buy a slide from eBay showing the 451 at Grand Forks 10-25-75 by George Horna and it still wore GN blue at that time.

There are a few other good photos of the BN 451 on rrpicturearchives, these two show it still in Big Sky Blue:

The 451 was retired in April of 1982 so this photo from June 1982 at Minneapolis was taken after the 451 was retired. At least it finally got BN green!

The 451 was then sold to Smith Brothers and scrapped.
