BN 5656

BN 5656 was built by GE as the CB&Q U28C 568 in February of 1966, one of ten new 2800 HP U28C's numbered 562-571. rrpicturearchives has a nice rear end view of the Q 568 being delivered to the CB&Q showing it in fresh paint.

Four years later came the BN merger and the CB&Q 568 was renumbered BN 5656 and was assigned to Lincoln, NE. I purchased a slide of the 5656 showing it at Minneapolis, MN on 6-23-73 still wearing CB&Q Chinese Red. The slide mount had no photographers name on it so I am unable to give credit for this really nice slide.

It wasn't until 5-24-79 that I finally got to see and photograph the 5656 for myself, it was of course BN green by then. The U28C was at Interbay yard in Seattle, the sun was shining and the 5656 out in the open so I got a slide of it as well.

Like the other BN U28C's the 5656 did not last long after that. It was stored for awhile and then retired in April of 1981 and then went to J Simons for scrap. In service for just 15 years before the end came.
