BN 5639

BN U25C 5639 was built 10/65 by GE as CB&Q 559. There were twelve 2500 HP U25C's built in 1965 for the Burlington Route numbered 550-561.

After the 1970 BN Merger the Q 559 was renumbered to BN 5639 and assigned to the Twin Cities Region as Miss. St for maintenance along with the other ex-CB&Q U25C's.

My notes show I first saw the 5639 at Auburn, WA 7-26-70 on a BN westbound off of Stampede Pass that had units 5616/NP 2525/5639/NP 337 (U25C/U25C/U25C/GP9). The 5639 was noted as still being in CB&Q colors.

I later saw and photographed the 5639 at Interbay, WA 5-29-79. By then the mars/nose lights had been removed and plated over. The BN paint looks really good compared to other older U-boats I photographed late in the 70's.

Fifteen months later in August of 1980 BN retired the 5639 and it was sold for scrap.
