BN 6471

BN SD45 6471 was originally built as the CB&Q 530.

The Burlington Route had 15 new EMD SD45's delivered in January of 1969 The fifteen SD45's were numbered 516-530. These SD45's were delivered in the experimental green/white scheme.

After the March 1970 BN merger the CB&Q 530 was renumbered BN 6471. Here is a rrpicturearchives photo of the BN 6471 still wearing CB&Q paint

And a rear end roster shot:

It was painted BN green by the mid-1970's.

I first photographed the BN 6471 on 7-14-78 on train 1-88 with 6456/6471/6453/2223 (SD45/SD45/SD45/GP30) at Skykomish, WA.

I photographed the 6471 once again at Interbay on 12-29-78 in a power set of 6478/6471/7084 (SD45/SD45/SD40-2) after arriving from a trip over Stevens Pass.

The 6471 remained on the BN roster until February 1984 when it was retired. It was picked up by CNW becoming the CNW 6589 in July of 1984.

The CNW unit later went to VMV where the rear hood with the flaring radiators was removed to be used on a commuter lines rebuilt GP40. The GP40's long hood was then added to the ex-SD45 and became the CSX SD40-2 8479. Here is a photo of the CSX 8479. Sure does not look like an SD45 any more!

In 2010 the 8479 got fresh paint:

The last photo of the CSX 8479 I could find was from 2016. No photos for 6 years does not sound good. Chances are it is stored or has been scrapped.
