BN 3010

BN GP40 3010 was built as the CB&Q 180 in December of 1966.

After the 1970 BN Merger the CB&Q 180 was renumbered to BN 3010 and assigned to Lincoln, NE for maintenance. The 3010 was a GP40 I never saw but I did buy a slide on eBay showing it at Galesburg, IL in 1970 still in CB&Q paint.

By 1974 it had been repainted to BN green with a number of photos of it on rrpicturearchives:

This nice photo of the 3010 taken during 1980 found on Trainpix shows the front striping wrapping around the nose a little more than usual:

About 8 years later BN had the 3010 rebuilt by MK and it emerged as BN GP39M 3512 in September of 1989 wearing the new BN white faced scheme. In 1992 it was noted as being assigned to Lincoln, NE. I photographed the BN 3512 at Seattle, WA 6-9-95 just before the BNSF merger.

The BN 3512 was renumbered to BNSF 3011 in January of 1999. I photographed the BNSF 3011 leading a southbound freight out of Seattle, WA 1-31-99 so it had not worn its new number very long.

The last photo that I have found of the 3011 was from Texas in 2016 and still wearing BN green. I am not aware of any photos of the 3011 since 2016.

New info has surfaced on the BNSf 3011 since my 2016 report. The 3011 did get H3 orange and black paint. While in Spokane, WA on a trip to Montana I caught the 3011 leading a local past Velox, WA just east of Spokane on 9-14-23.

This is the last of BNSF's single track on the Funnel. Work is progressing now to make it double track A closer roster shot shows the BNSF 3011 looking very good in it's paint that was applied sometime between 2016 and 2019.

Nice to be able to report some good news knowing the 3011 is still working in active service on the BNSF.
