BN 2536

BN GP35 2536 was built by EMD as the CB&B 990 in June of 1964.

One photo of it on rrpicturearchives showing it in Chinese red:

After the March 1970 BN merger the CB&Q 990 was renumbered to BN 2536 and it along with the other ex-CB&Q GP35's transferred out west to Vancouver, WA.

I first saw the BN 2536 on 8-11-72 on train 139 at Auburn, WA with units 2220/2536/2545/SP 6583/4260 (GP30/GP35/GP35/GP35/C425) And of the four BN units only the 2536 was still in pre-merger colors.

It was BN green when I photographed it at Interbay, WA on 3-10-79. Note that the 2536 has a flat topped warning flasher and the upper CB&Q lights between the number boards are gone.

The next month the 2536 was photographed leading southbound 139 at Auburn, WA with units 2536/725/2203/820 (GP35/F7B/GP30/F9A) on 4-21-79.

I got another roster of the 2536 at Interbay on 4-1-80 showing the opposite side. Note that now the 2536 has a round topped warning flashed on the cab roof. (we always called those a gumball)

I took one last photo of the 2536 on 6-8-83 arriving at Interbay, WA with the northbound North Bend Turn. Units 2536/2081 (GP35/GP38-2).have six cars and a caboose in tow.

BN 2536 was retired by BN in April 1986. It was scrapped by BN at Spokane, WA a few months later. No explanation why the 2536 was scrapped but speculation was it may have been damaged in a collision and rather than repairing the GP35 which were trouble units (poor electrical system) it was simply cut up for scrap.
