BN 5738
BN U33C 5738 was purchased new by BN in July 1971. This new order was comprised of U33C's 5735-5763 and this entire group was assigned to Livingston, MT for maintenance.
I first saw the 5738 at Baring, WA 9-25-71. I was riding an eastbound BN passenger special from Seattle to Leavenworth that day and we passed a westbound freight with 5738/5730/6421/668 (U33C/U33C/SD45/F7A) at Baring on our way towards Stevens Pass.
On 5-19-78 I roster shot the 5738 at Interbay, WA.

U-boats were notorious for mismatched battery box doors but the 5738 has one outright missing! And it looks like quite a leak above the fuel tank as well.
On 4-23-79 I photographed westbound BN train #43 with 5738/6412 (U33C/SD45) at Galer Street south of Interbay headed towards South Seattle.

The last time I photographed the 5738 was in a Pasco, WA deadline of old U33C's 9-4-82.

Chances are that the 5738 never returned to service. Eventually it was retired 2/86 and sold for scrap ending its rather brief service life.
