BN 5824

BN U30C 5824 was built in April of 1974 for use in coal train service. Twenty U30C's were delivered, ten numbered 5824-5833 as lead Locotrol masters and ten more as 5929-5938 for Locotrol remote service. All were assigned to Alliance, NE for maintenance.

On 5-6-80 I photographed the 5824 at Auburn, WA about to head out for Stampede Pass on an X08 grain empty that had units 6530/5011/5824/8063/6555/6430/1921 (SD45/C30-7/U30C/SD40-2/SD45/SD45/GP9)

Note that the 5824 is still stenciled for Alliance but is in general freight service.

The 5824 remained on the BN roster until 4/89 when it was retired (after just 15 years in service) and scrapped.
