BN 9244
BN SD60M 9244 built in March of 1990 is one of 50 purchased for coal service and assigned to Glendive, MT for maintenance. All fifty numbered 9200-9249 were delivered with three piece windshields, the second order of SD60M's came with two.
The July 1995 NPRHA Convention was held in Glendive, MT and I attended. I'd flown into Billings, MT from Seattle and after the convention had ended was driving back to Billings to fly back home. On that return trip I photographed the BN 9244 near Pompeys, Pillar, MT headed east with a loaded coal train on 7-16-95.
Another photo of the BN 9244 East a few miles further east. Power was 9244/9230/7815/5007 (SD60M/SD60M/SD40-2/C30-7)
After the BNSF merger the 9244 was not relettered to BNSF for quite some time. I caught the still BN 9244.West at Paha, WA on BNSF's ex-NP Lakeside Sub with a cut of military equipment behind the locomotives.
By 2006 the 9244 had been relettered BNSF 9244 but was still in BN green paint. On a July 2006 trip to North Dakota I caught up to the BNSF 9244 West with an empty coal train at Bismarck, ND 7-16-06.
By 2008 the BNSF 9244 had been renumbered to BNSF 8144 to clear up the number series for new BNSF SD70ACe's. The 8144 still wore BN green even then.
The 8144 was retired by BNSF and went to PRLX and relettered the PRLX 8144, and still wearing green on the B&P in New York during 2014.
It was renumbered to CBFX 6031 by 2018. The last photo I could find was taken in 2019 and it looked to be in storage, and still BN green. Apparently the SD60M has not run since.
