BN 6529
BN SD45 6529 was built by EMD in July of 1971. It was part of a group of BN SD45's numbered 6498-6542 and they were all assigned to Havre, MT for maintenance.
I first saw the 6529 on 1-29-72 at Easton, WA leading train 174 with units 6529/1901/735/750/734/1921 (SD45/GP9/F7B//F7A/F7A/GP9) and BN caboose 10523 on the end of the train. Of the six locomotives, only the 6529 was BN green, the rest still in NP colors. Here is a page from the Easton OS book from 1-29-72 showing the 6529 making four trips through Easton that day!
My first photo of the 6529 was a rear end roster shot at Interbay on 6-30-77. A bit backlit but still the 6529.
I photographed the 6529 once more at South Seattle, WA on 7-5-80.
Note the extra cab windows, an option carried over from the Northern Pacific as their 30 SD45's also had the extra windows.
Almost exactly one year later on 7-4-81 the 6529 was destroyed as it and SD40-2 6376 were leading a rail train and encountered a washed out bridge near Trinidad, CO, Both units plunged into the void and sadly the crew perished. Both the 6529 and 6376 were scrapped. Here is a series of photos on rrpicturearchives showing the wreck.
