BN 8158
SD40-2 8158 was delivered new to the BN in July of 1980 and was first assigned to Livingston, MT on the former NP along with other 8100's from the same order. I first saw the 8158 at Interbay on 12-13-80. I probably should have photographed it then as I never did catch it on the point or rostered the BN 8158 after that! Especially odd as after the Livingston shops closed the 8158 moved west and ended up being assigned to Interbay! The BNSF merger came and went and still no photos of the 8158, BN or BNSF.
By 2004 the 8158 had been retired and went to Helm Leasing where it ended up on the power short CSX. On a trip to Pennsylvania in October 2004 I photographed a CSX train with the HLCX 8158 trailing at Mance, PA on 10-8-04 still wearing BN green paint.
Looking back on that now I find it funny I was unable to photograph the 8158 here in my own backyard but I stumble upon it back east! Since that 2004 photo the 8158 has been repainted in Helm Leasing blue and looks pretty good. Here is a link to some photos of it on the RR Picture Archives website.

It looks like it got the blue paint sometime between December 2007 and March 2008. I also see that last photo of it was taken in July 2008 so that doesn't look to good for it still being active today. Odds are it is in storage.
