BN 8153
BN SD40-2 8153 was built by EMD in July of 1980. It was one of a group of SD40-2's numbered 8090-8181 and purchased for general system wide service. I photographed the BN 8153 westbound off of Stampede Pass on 1-13-81 leading train GB2 with units 8153/5738/7119/6805 (SD40-2/U33C/SD40-2/SD40-2) and caboose 10367. This photo shows the train crossing the Green River at MP 100 east of East Auburn, WA.
The train is only cab hop here as the rest of the train (loaded grain) was set out at Covington to continue west later. Here is the BN OS sheet from Easton, WA for 1-13-81 which was a busy day it appears. The 8153 looks to have doubled Stampede Pass judging from the multiple trips through Easton.
After arrival at Auburn, WA the power headed for the service area where I photographed the 8153 once more under the ex-NP sanding tower.
After the 1996 BNSF merger the 8153 was assigned to become BNSF 8153 but was never relettered and was sold to HELM leasing becoming HLCX 8153 in January of 2001 and repainted into this attractive red paint scheme. Photo from rrpicturearchives at Mpnaca, PA on the CSX 1-19-06.
In January 2014 it was sold to NS, painted black and renumbered NS 3565. Again from rrpicturearchives a photo of the ex-BN 8153 as NS 3565 at Crandall, IL 12-28-16.
In 2019 the NS 3565 was rebuilt with an "Admiral Cab" and a fresh repaint.
The NS 3565 was later rebuilt as an SD40-3 so should be around awhile longer..
