BN 8101

BN SD40-2 8101 was built in May of 1980 by EMD coming from an order that was numbered 8090-8181 and was BN's last order of SD40-2's. There were 92 units total in this order.

I photographed a fairly new BN 8101 at Interbay, WA 7-24-80 being just two months old.

Note the C&S initials on one of the doors ahead of the cab. Guess someone at the paint shop thought it was a C&S unit while this order was not. Makes it unique.

The 8101 continued in service on BN in general freight service until the BNSF merger. The 8101 was never relettered for BNSF and with a slowdown in the country's economy the entire order the 8101 was a part of was retired starting in 2001 to 2003. The 8101was officially retired in May of 2003 and went to FURX entering their lease fleet still in BN green and was leased back to BNSF Here is a nice photo of the FURX 8101 from rrpicturearchives taken in 2008.

FURX 8101 was later sold to WAMX along with other ex-BN FURX SD40-2's to replace WAMX SD50's. The 8101 became WAMX SLWC 4151 and was painted yellow and black in 2012 as seen in this photo from rrpicturearchives working the Stillwater Central Railroad in Oklahoma.

The last photos that I could find of the 4151 were taken in 2017 and there is no further disposition after that.
