BN 8072
BN SD40-2 8072 was built by EMD in December of 1979.and was one of 43 SD40-2's numbered 8031-8074 and intended for use in the general freight pool.
I first saw the 8072 at Interbay on 4-1-80 coupled behind SD45 6445. I also photographed the 4 month old SD40-2 the same day.
After the 1996 BNSF merger the 8072 was scheduled to be relettered to BNSF 8072 but it was still lettered for BN when it was photographed leading a westbound BNSF train out of Ramsey, ID on the ex-NP between Sandpoint, ID and Spokane, WA on a snowy 12-27-03.
It was BNSF 8072 when I photographed it at Tacoma, WA on 5-1-04 leading a northbound BNSF train towards Seattle.
By 2011 BNSF had retired the 8072 and it became HLCX 8072 and retained the BN paint the years it worked the HLCX lease fleet.
Around 2016 the 8072 was sold to the Dallas, Garland and Northeastern where it was painted orange and black as seen in this photo of it as the DGNO 3496 at Dallas, TX in 2018 from rrpicturearchives:
And that was the last piece on information I could find on the ex-BN 8072. Odds are it is still in Dallas, TX working for the DGNO.
