BN 7893
BN SD40-2 7893 was built as the C&S 7893 in May of 1979. It looked like any other BN SD40-2 but had sublettering for the Colorado and Southern. I was at Interbay, WA on 5-31-96 and photographed the 7893 in the locomotive facility.
Obvious changes since delivery was the plating over of the class lights and addition of ditch lights along with the removal of the warning flasher on the roof.
With the BNSF merger later that year the BN 7893 was relettered to BNSF 7893 on 8-8-01. The 7893 was retired by BNSF in 2008, still wearing its BN green paint. Later that same year the ex-BNSF 7893 was relettered again but this time for HLCX. It was then leased to Norfolk Southern and spent a lot of time in the state of Ohio. After 2012 there are no more photos of the 7893 so it appears that the SD40-2 was retired and possibly scrapped. If any more information turns up there will be an update on the status of the 7893.
