BN 6824

BN SD40-2 6824 was built by EMD in November of 1973. It was part of a small 13 unit order numbered 6824-6836. All thirteen were set up as Locotrol masters and assigned to Interbay in North Seattle for maintenance after delivery.

I photographed the 6824 at Interbay on 3-24-77 ready to head east on train 130.

The next time I photographed the 6824 it was leading a westbound BNSF train at Bristol, WA 5-22-98 on the reopened ex-NP Stampede Sub.

BN 6824 was relettered BNSF 6824 in June of 2002. It kept the BN green for many more years. In .December of 2008 it was renumbered to BNSF 1850 as newly arriving BNSF GEVO's were being numbered into the 6800 series. With the renumbering the 1850 was repainted in H3 paint which it wears today Currently the SD40-2 is still in service working the Minneapolis, MN area.
