BN 6821

BN SD40-2 6821 was built by EMD 4/1973 as BN 6361. It was soon renumbered 6821 as the 6800's were remote master units paired to run with 6900 series receiver SD40-2's. Sometime after 1977 the remote service was discontinued and the 6800 and 6900 series SD40-2's were used in the general freight pool.

On 8-13-83 I photographed the 6821 leading westbound BN #3 with the 6821/8130 up front exiting the Cascade Tunnel at Scenic, WA.

On 3-3-84 I roster shot the 6821 at Wenatchee, WA on another westbound train.

At some point the 6821 was repainted into BN's whiteface scheme with pinstripe as shown in this rrpicturearchives photo.

After the 1996 BNSF merger the BN 6821 was relettered BNSF and kept the BN green paint until being repainted by 2005. Another rrpicturearchives photo.

With new BNSF GE's on order intended for the 6800 series the 6821 was renumbered one more time around the year 2010 to BNSF 1692, the number that this SD40-2 still carries today in service for the BNSF.
