BN 6381

BN 6381 is an EMD SD40-2 built in April 1974 as part of a ten unit order for the BN numbered 6376-6385. All ten were assigned to Havre, MT after they were delivered for the general freight pool.

I was up at Interbay on 5-14-74 and was offered a cab ride on the locomotives of train 82 from the engine facility out to the train. BN 6830/6456/6381/6826 (SD40-2/SD45/SD40-2/SD40-2) was the power for the train. Got to ride in all four units including month old 6381.

On 8-6-80 I roster shot the 6381 at Interbay. Note that it is now assigned to Livingston, MT

I also photographed the 6381 leading westbound train 21 at Spokane, WA 7-14-94. Locomotives 6381/MRL 361/MRL 312 (SD40-2/SD45/SD45-2) were up front.

After the 1996 BNSF merger the BN 6381 was assigned BNSF 6381 but was not relettered until 2001. It stayed in BN green even after it was renumbered BNSF 1829, photos from 2010 show it still BN green numbered 1829.

A photo from 2014 then showed it in BNSF's orange and black paint scheme and working in Texas. This is a pretty nice shot of the 1829 from rrpicturearchives:

The last photo I could find of the 1829 was from 2017 so there has not been much info on it since.
