BN 6354
This BN 6354 is actually the second 6354 that BN had on its roster. The first BN 6354 was an SD40-2 built in March 1973 with Locotrol and was later renumbered to BN 6814.
The second 6354 was built new as Colorado and Southern SD40-2 906 in March 1972 and assigned to Livingston, MT.
I photographed the C&S 906 at Auburn, WA 1-28-80.
Interesting that there is no C&S markings on the battery box door. About this time BN was integrating the C&S power into the BN numbering system and the C&S 906 was renumbered BN 6354.
I photographed the 6354 leading eastbound train #600 at Coulter Creek, WA on 1-9-93. This is the east side of the GN's Stevens Pass route.
After the BNSF merger the BN 6354 was renumbered to BNSF 6388 in November of 1998. Most of the photos of the 6388 I have found were taken in Denver, CO and it was still wearing BN green, quite a few on rrpicturearchives.
In 2009 the 6388 was rebuilt to SD40-2R 1961 and remained assigned to the Denver, CO area. It was looking pretty ugly in 2016.
By December of 2016 the 1961 had been repainted to BNSF's current orange and black.
As of late 2020 the BNSF 1961 could still be found in the Denver area.
