BN 6314
BN SD40 6314 was part of an order of 25 EMD SD40's the BN ordered in early 1971. Numbered 6300-6324 the 6314 was built in November of 1971. All 25 SD40's were assigned to Livingston, MT after delivery.
I first saw the 6314 on 7-13-72 when it led train #174 out of Auburn, WA for Stampede Pass in a lashup of 6314/5700/725/757/1921 (SD40/U33C/F7B/F7B/GP9)
I got my first photo of the 6314 on 3-14-79 on Stevens Pass leading train #88 with units 6314/6470/6510/6909 (SD40/SD45/SD45/SD40-2) out of Skykomish, WA.
About a year and a half later I saw the 6314 leading again, this time train #138 with units 6314/2525/825 (SD40/GP35/F9B) at South Seattle, WA 9-23-80.
In February of 1987 BN retired the 6314. It went to NHL who renumbered and relettered the SD40 to NHL 6414 but it kept the BN green paint. Here is a photo of it in Illinois from 1989 from rrpicturearchives:
The 6414 was leased to the SP which is why it was renumbered as to avoid confusion with SP's own 6314, a rebuilt GP35.
I was unable to find a disposition of the ex-BN 6314 after its lease to the SP.
