BN 2100

BN 2100 is an EMD GP38-2 built in November 1974 and part of a group numbered 2088-2109. Of these, the 2097-2101 were first assigned to Auburn, WA for maintenance.

I first saw the 2100 on 12-11-74 leading the Everett Turn with 2100/9726 (GP38-2/F7A) out of Auburn, WA at 1238 am. Days later, 12-15-74 a westbound train off of Stampede Pass arrived at Auburn with units 6533/2100/2097/1782/1637 (SD45/GP38-2/GP38-2/GP9/GP7) at 10:50 pm showing that the 2100 was seeing all kinds of service.

After the Auburn shops were closed in the early 1980's the 2100 was reassigned to Northtown, MN along with most of the other 2100's. It was also given an experimental paint scheme with black and white stripes extending onto the front of the cab. Here are some photos of it taken by other photographers:

After the BNSF merger the 2100 was relettered BNSF but kept the number 2100. It wasn't until well after it was repainted H1 that the 2100 showed up in Washington state as last Thursday 7-26-12 I saw and photographed BNSF GP38-2 2100 for the first time, catching it switching double stacks at West Seattle, WA.

In just a few years the 2100 will be 40 years old! Nice to see it back in the Pacific Northwest.
